@hdv @ppk @seb_ly That’s what they told me too. And was why I was ok to waive my speaker fee.

I think it’s fine to have the *profits* from an event subsidise another, but not at the expense of the participants and attendees. And telling people who’ve paid large sums that they’ll not get the expected facilities is not ok. Trust will vanish and the whole thing will not be repeatable.

@ppk @seb_ly FWIW, sponsors were approached with the claim that they were expecting 3000 speakers. The only reason to book a venue of that size is if you’re hoping to bring in that many attendees. And Also the only way to avoid just a handful of attendees per talk.

I think this is an example of their reach far outstretching their grasp.

@mikestreety @jaffathecake My suggestion for that is to write/blog first. Writing about things you care about is a great way to crystallise some thinking into a story you might find you want to tell in a conference talk.
